Humanism & Italian Life

Scuola di Atene (The School of Athens), is one of the most famous paintings by the Italian Renaissance artist Raphael. It was painted between 1510 and 1511 as a part of Raphael's commission to decorate with frescoes the rooms now known as the Stanze di Raffaello, in the Apostolic Palace in the Vatican.

Essay Assignment (4 pages double-spaced): Using Chapters 17 and 18 of Niccolo Machiavelli's The Prince (1513) and the Preface to Book One of his Discourses (1513/14 - 1518/19), along with book and Web site readings to answer this question: Is Machiavelli representative of Renaissance ideals or opposed to them? Explain.
